ATKINS RANCH

Atkins  Ranch  farmers live and operate mainly in the temperate zones of  New Zealand, where climatic extremes are uncommon and allows for grass growth all year round.

Atkins Ranch lambs are raised on pasture. High quality pastures allow lambs to grow swiftly, to the most desirable size for the market.

Good pasture needs careful management and renovation. Much of the success of New Zealand ranching is rotational grazing management, where lambs are moved regularly to fresh pastures, often daily.

This gives the grazed pasture a rest period of at least 60 days, which has the dual benefit of allowing the pasture to re-grow and many of the lamb parasites to die. This reduces the reliance on intensive worming programs and human intervention, building a natural immunity.

As there is no place for feed lots in our pasture system, lambs do not have access to manufactured foods from other animal by products, corn or soy products.

Four wheel drive ATV’s have significantly assisted in the efficiency of daily lamb rotation. Enabling the ranchers to move quickly around their lambs

 Supplier Monitoring

All lamb suppliers have their ranches inspected to gain ‘Quality Assurance Accreditation’ certification; this is to ensure compliance with animal welfare and good farming practices.

This certification ensures only the most suitable lamb suppliers join the Atkins Ranch program.

Atkins Ranch lamb suppliers also sign an affidavit to guarantee that their lambs have no added antibiotics or growth hormones and have never been on feedlots.

Genetic Modification (GM)

New Zealand has strict GM release registration laws

No genetically modified grass species have been released and no genetically modified sheep have been developed in New Zealand. All Atkins Ranch lambs are GM Free.
